Drugs and Alcohol Game
B. Berg, Ph.D.
Description:
Finally, a realistic tool for teaching kids the skills to both recognize and counter the myriad pressures to use drugs and alcohol. Acknowledging that certain attitudes and emotions – not just peer pressure – usually underlie the decision to use drugs and alcohol, the game addresses the complex circumstances that lead to drug use in the real world. Players learn about 30 different motivations – everything from wanting to feel comfortable in new social situations to depression to a lack of goals and direction. Game cards present realistic scenarios in which characters confront alcohol, crack marijuana, and pills; players identify the characters’ motivations to use drugs and role-play responses that reject drug use.
The accompanying inventory helps you recognize each child’s potential incentives to use drugs and alcohol; corresponding codes on the game cards allow you to target those specific issues during game-play.
