Dictionary of Holland Occupational Codes, 3rd Edition

G.D. Gottfredson, Ph.D. & J.L. Holland, Ph.D.

This volume is a “translation” of the Dictionary of Occupational Titles (DOT) and its Supplements into the Holland classification system. The Holland classification uses six main categories--Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional--to characterize occupations. These main groups are used to form 3-letter subgroups that are useful in assessing the degree of congruence between a person’s interests or preferences and any of thousands of occupations.

  • Makes the 12,860 occupational titles from the DOT and its supplements more accessible to counselors, clients, and researchers who use the Holland classification to find or organize occupational information.
  • Provides cross-reference indexes between DOT and Holland codes.
  • Codes reflect current job analysis information, recent changes in work environments, and industry trends.
  • Provides valuable information about the distinguishing characteristics of each occupational class and the distribution of occupations among the categories.
