Battelle Developmental Inventory™, Second Edition Normative Update

Jean Newborg, 2004, 2016

Battelle Developmental Inventory, Second Edition Normative Update (BDI-2 NU) is an early childhood instrument based on the concepts of developmental milestones. As a child develops, he or she typically attains critical skills and behaviors sequentially from simple to complex. BDI-2 NU helps measure a child's progress along this developmental continuum by both global domains and discrete skill sets. BDI-2 NU is aligned to the three OSEP Early Childhood Outcomes, as well as the Head Start Child Outcomes. It can be used to meet the federal reporting requirements across Part C, Part B/619, and Head Start programs. The BDI-2 NU includes re-weighted normative data based on 2015 U.S. Census data projections to meet federal requirements for eligibility.

Meets all federal requirements of IDEA in areas of: Adaptive, Cognitive, Communication, Personal-Social and Motor

Aligns with all three OSEP early childhood Outcomes and Head Start Child Outcomes

Provides useful data for immediate instruction and intervention through actionable items

Allows for effective monitoring of child and program progress on short- and long-term basis

Includes multiple administration methods

Structured, play-based activities using child-friendly manipulatives designed for use with examinees from birth to age 7 years, 11 months

Observation can be completed in child's natural setting

Interview-scripted questions for a parent or caregiver

Provides CSS (Change Sensitive Scores) through Data Manager software to effectively monitor growth

Offers comprehensive norms sensitive to rapid development

Aligns with popular preschool curriculums

Streamlines administration with eKits

Gathers data electronically with Mobile Data Solution

BDI-2 NU may be used by a team of professionals or by an individual service provider.

Accommodations and modifications are available for professionals when assessing infants and children with special needs or disabilities.
