Assess verbal and non-verbal reasoning ability in all 11 SA languages.This test measures figural, quantitative and verbal skills closely related to scholastic achievement.It provides a relatively objective measure of learner reasoning ability that could, along with other information, help educators plan appropriate instructional programmes.

The PPG Test of General Reasoning was designed to differentiate between learners at all levels of ability, but especially at the lower levels. The test is short enough to be administered in two sessions of about an hour and a quarter each.

As a group test its primary purpose is to serve as screening function. The Test of General Reasoning was developed in the eleven official languages. For the sake of optimal communication test instructions should always be presented to learners in their mother tongue.

The test includes the following sub tests:

• Classification,
• Verbal Comprehension,
• Figure Series,
• Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning,
• Pattern Completion and
• Number Series.

The Test of General Reasoning Level 2 is suitable for learners in their second and third school years (Grade 2 and Grade 3) and the Test of General Reasoning Level 3 is suitable for children in their third and fourth school years (Grades 3 and 4). As children vary considerably with regards to the degree of exposure to the kind of material used in the tests, a practice test is available to prepare learners for taking the Test of General Reasoning.

The practice test, Picture Games, should especially benefit children with less experience in the formal educational setting by familiarizing them with the framework of procedures adhered to during test administration and the kind of figural representations used in the test.
